Transmission Gods please help, found part in pan.

Does anyone know what this part is and or where it came from? I found this in the trans pan when I pulled it last night. My 2000 X (V8), with 4R70W trans, is currently dead in my garage and it has a transmission problem. When the vehicle is cold, it starts fine but when shifted into reverse the engine stalls. I had the trouble code read from the blinking OD off light and it was P0741. I was planning on replacing the TCC solenoid to see if this works and heading for the torque converter if it doesn't and when I dropped the pan this part was just rolling around in the bottom. I don't have a manual with a parts breakdown and I can't figure out where this part came from or what it is. I had a great plan and everything was shot down when I found this. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Andy

That is in every 4r70w the first time you open the pan. I made this same post about two years ago. It was a plug that Ford just pushed in when the tranny dipstick tube is inserted.

Thanks Section525 for the very quick reply. I have been racking my brain trying to figure out what this was and where it came from. I am soooo relieved to find out that this isn't some valve that came apart and all of the related components were now in the system somewhere. Now I can proceed with my plan and hopefully it will solve my problem.

Also, you can tell one thing about your pan...odds are, it's never been dropped for transmission service before. If it had, the person dropping the pan would have discarded that plug.

Yeah, you need a special tool to get that framistan out of the panistan from afghanistan -- a left handed bearing wrench that only we Frod dealers have...
