My 1993 Explorer last week from what I thought slipped it's throw-out bearing. The mechanic wanted to replace the clutch while the transmission was pulled out. Now the mechanic called and says its the transmission is shot with 114,000 miles on the truck. :shoot:

1. Am I looking at $1000+/-? :thumbdwn:

2. What would the truck be worth for parts and just tow it to a junk yard?

3. Is it worth the money to replace the trans on a running almost 12 year old truck? :frustrate

I need help if I should just stop poring money into the truck now and cut my loses. This past spring I replace the front end at $900, I know the 4x4 does not work and the rear springs on the driver side need replacing.

It depends on how reliable the rest of the truck is. Is it all rusted out? I own a '94 and it's been a very reliable truck for me ( actually for my wife, but I get it on weekends:))

Glacier999 has made many posts on this site about rebuilding transmissions.

Myself, I wouldn't get rid of it because I do my own work. I'm no genius, I just won't pay someone for work I am capable of doing myself.

What exactly is the tranny doing. Ask what is actually wrong with the tranny? You can also get a tranny from ebay for about 650 bucks from a place called Phoenix..i dont' know much about them though. OR i just remember a guy on the other board i'm on is selling an m5 for 600, just rebuilt http://www.rrorc.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20907 .

I wouldn't get rid of it personally, I hate dealing with mechanics, they treat me like crap usually and do a TERRIBLE job so I do my own work now.

GOod luck

It costed me like 2500 for my rebuild with a 4 year warrenty. Personally I would keep the truck if was in my trucks conidition.
