Transmission Hard to shift cold!

I have a 94 Limited Explorer.
My wife says when she is taking the kids to school
it is hard to shift from 1 to 2nd gear.
I have checked the fluild and it`s fine and it smell`s like it should. After a few miles and the traney is hot it shifts
fine. This problem just started a few day`s ago,and I
would like to get it fixed before it causes a real high
dollar damaged.
I have the A4LD type transmission.

I had the same problem last winter with it having a real hard time shifting into second when cold. At the worst it wouldn't shift and i would have to slow then accelerate again. I put new transmission fluid in in the spring and this winter I don't have the problem. For the last four years or so the shft into second has been just a little slower for me in any kind of weather but only when I really get on the gas and I have had no major problems.
