Hey guys I have a 05 explorer rwd . The transmission went out (5r55w) and I dicided to rebuild it since I am a ase master tech but its taken me a while since I can only work on it on sundays . Unfortunalty I don't like transmissions. Here's my problem after I rebuilt it the car only goes forward. Take in mind that everything is new and the only time you hear is the reverse band shatter is when I'm shifting from parking to reverse. The only thing that comes to mind is that the parking rod/ ****er rod in side the tranny is out of calibration that it might be to long or to short any wild guess what can it be? Thanks in advance

That sure sucks to put that work into it and not work correctly. I had my transmission apart a while back, but I'm by no means an expert. Its a relatively simple transmission as far as automatics go. I can think of a few things that might be wrong. Did you reassemble the valve body correctly with the check balls and springs in the right locations? Did you adjust the bands correctly? If it's a used solenoid pack, that might be the problem. Most good rebuilders will only use NEW OEM because everything else has a very high failure rate. Did you properly top off the fluid level? You have to get the bands assembled correctly. I think it's possible to put the hook piece in wrong and it will come dislodged later. Other than just flat out putting something together wrong or backwards, I don't have any other suggestions. I doubt if it's the shift linkage because if D is in the correct spot, everything else should follow.

That's the other thing D is not in the right position that's why I was leaning more towards the linkage inside the transmission. Fluids are right and I even built it with the rebuild manual. The solenoid pack is new. I need to fix this, this weekend it my wife's car.

Are you sure the manual linkage is connected properly?
