Hey guys,

I'm new here and I found this forum after a little googling.

My problem is: We just swapped the engine on my 97 Explorer to a newer one (same engine, I think this one was on a 99). engine started right up and is running like a champ, BUT. After we put everything back together, the transmission is not working properly.

First:

  • Won't let me start by turning the key (have to start by shorting relay)
  • When I put it on drive it feels like when a manual transmission has a bad clutch and takes effort to get moving
  • Won't shift out of whatever gear it's on
  • Speedometer doesn't work (tach is fine)
  • "O/D" light is flashing
  • Check engine's on
  • ABS light is on

I checked the oil and it's fine. I am working on checking the grounds and the wires that go from the transmission to the main plug. Any ideas please?!?!?

Computer may not be acknowledging the tranny? Was the computer swapped with the engine? May be part of the problem...but I don't really know enough to be dangerous on engine swaps. Hopefully, someone who knows more will chime in....
