The lines are low pressure, and there is already reinforced rubber lines running from the metal tubing to/from the aux. cooler sitting in front of the radiator. This rubber tubing is connected to the metal lines w/ hose clamps (small ones - use the right size).
If you really want to have the job done right, you'll need to double-flare the ends of the cut metal (puts a bump in the metal for the hose clamp to tighten behind). I think this tool can be borrowed from CSK (checker/shucks/kragen). A single-flare might cut into the rubber over time. Be sure to properly check the fluid level after you are done. The lines are anchored in a couple of places, so make sure the fix doesn't allow the lines to flop around (let's say hitting your fan or something like that).
I would suggest not using "hose" clamps as "tubing" clamps...they are designed to clamp onto things that are elastomers (rubbers and plastics). The other problem with an inside tubing fix is that it would reduce the flow area, thereby reducing flow to the coolers (even if just slightly).
