Transmission overheat?

Tell us about this rebuild? Where (no names, just generically) how much, warranty etc... Sounds very much like they didn't align the pump on rebuilt, or added a new front bushing and didn't turn it in place... both of those would case front oil seal failure.....the A4LD front seal failure on rebuild rate is very high because there are NO shortcuts!!! (And many places do shortcut it.)

One of my family members owns a shop and did it for me, I got the torque converter, master rebuild kit with steels, and a new cooler. Thats all I know about the rebuild. They charged me 1 grand and it was done in three days.

Hey guys, I'm pretty sure I have an overheating problem now. I was driving around and when I got home it was leaking again, I looked under my X and still couldnt find the leak. My girlfriend was with me and was touching engine parts and asking if it was hot. She touched my tranny cooler and said it was cold, I touched it and it was. I felt kinda dumb because my girlfirend who knows nothing about cars found the problem.
So I guess my tranny is overflowing because it's so hot.
Also I checked the tranny lines the were also cool, and no they did not looked clamped in any way. I checked the dipstick and the fuild was steaming out.
I called my family member and he thinks it's something in the tranny that sends the fuild to the tranny, I'm not to sure what he was talking about but he did say something about the touque converter.
Also what kind of problems can transmission overheat cause to my tranny? I want to make sure they fix anything the overheat could have ruined.

All of the clutch frictions and both bands could be toast, and once the fluid reaches a certain temp, it loses it's ability to lubricate (just too thin to seperate the surfaces) so any bushings and bearings could also be toast. Rubber and plastic seals also hate high temps. All in all, if it didn't happen often or for a long time, it might be OK, but the rule is that for every 20 degrees higher temp, life expectancy is halved.

It could be that you boiled the tranny fluid to where it came out of the vent tube (starts at the top of the rear of the tranny and then loops up and comes back down on the driver's side of the tranny).

I was driving it to my house when it happened, the trans didnt act up but i had lots of smoke coming from my X, i thought it was just my damn oil leak but when i got home, i left a trail of fuild. I would say i was driving it for about an hour with the trans overheating.
I just want to make sure that they fix the problem and also fix any damage the overheating could have caused. :roll:

ok so I come back from the shop and they said it was my tranny cooler in the rad. So I had it replaced and flushed, they said it got cloged or something and it needed to be cleaned or something, So I just told them to replace it since it has a coolant leak anyways. So I leave the tranny shop and drive about 40 miles to my house and bam smoke everywhere the damn tranny overheated again. This is the third time in 4 weeks.
Does anyone out there know why my tranny keeps on overheating, they are dropping it down tomorrow to see whats up with it.
This will be the first time since the rebuild that they take the tranny off and look inside. Also should I complain to have it rebuild because the number of times it overheated on me, i'm sure it took a lot of life off my tranny.

Sorry if my response upset you. A wise man (my father) told me to never get involved in issues of family. Has served me well over the years. I have definite opinions, have from the start. I'll leave it to others - you have issues of family.

Has it been checked for a crimped cooling line?

Yup that was one of the first things we checked.
I think something inside the tranny is cligging the lines or coolers.

Update, the shop took the tranny apart and replaced the T/Q and band and some other stuff I don't now what they are.
Turns out something was plugging up my cooler and heating up the trans, they flushed the lines three times and something just flew out, don't know what it was but i'm just glad it's out.
It's been a few weeks now and my trans feels brand new again.
