Transmission Problems

I would highly doubt the engine, not only has he had it partially rebuilt after a blown head gasket. But if it were in the engine, wouldn't it show up while driving too? The way i see it its the transmission doing something to actually cause the jerking of the car, and something electrical to cause the power surging, but what i dont know. Of course this is only my .02, and since we dont know the status of the fluid, connections, and all the other fun stuff that the ford mechanic gets to do today, i guess we have to wait.:frustrate

BTW, do you know who your service guy is? Mike Heard is the guy i have at Peachtree Ford, and he has been awsome. He always makes sure the car is ready and on time. He always called when something came up, and i can only give him more compliments. Unlike my fun time with the guy at Billy Howell  He and I dont get along so well.:D I want to know what they said!

Should have gotten the electrical fixed sooner

I think you will find that the front seal has been pushed out. Happens to a lot of people when they do serious off roading and over rev under high load. Not that you went of roading but you stood on the brake while the engine reved up to 1200 rpm. That created a lot of pressure that pushed out the seal. This wouldn't necessarily need a total rebuild. The transmission has to be removed and a new seal installed. no need to disassemble it. But then they dont make as much money. Since this vehicle is at the end of its monetary life, it could be a fun home project. Anyway, look under the vehicle ehere the engine meets the bellhousing. if the leak is there, it's the front seal.

Alright, hold on to your seats everyone, I got an update:

1. The rocking was caused by low transmission fluid which was caused by a leak somewhere along the line. (The guy called my dad, and apparently my dad didn't take very good notes.) Anyway, that is annoying because I checked the transmission fluid and could've sworn that it was good. So they're fixing that leak and refilling the fluid.
2. They are replacing the battery.
3. The fluid that started leaking the other night was power steering fluid. They are going to fix that leak and refill the power steering fluid.

They said the Ex should be ready by tomorrow evening, so we'll see when I get it.

BTW, Alex, the guy I talked to was named Pete. But the name Mike Heard seems familiar, maybe that's the guy who had the Ex back when the engine was getting partially rebuilt. That was the time they lost the Explorer

actually thats exactly where i remember him from. None the less no problems with him yet. When Chase first it up to me i figured front seal, i never actually took my lazy ass out to check under that car. Now i don't know too much about transmissions, but why exactly would power be surging with the bucking? Maybe a lose connection losing then regaining connection everytime the car bucked?

Alright, well it seems like we've lost everybody's interest, but I'll keep updating this thread for you anyway.

They said the Ex would be ready this afternoon. And, in the true Ford fashion, this afternoon they said it will be ready tomorrow morning. They're "waiting for a part."

Hopefully I'll be getting it tomorrow afterschool.

If not there will be some discussing going on with the people in charge.

I really love this dealership, except they never give you the car back when they say they will.

Wow, 8 year old A4LD and they didn't BS you about having to rebuild it?

I'm impressed!

Good luck with it Chase.

Thanks

Hopefully I'll be getting it back from them tomorrow afternoon, and we'll be able to see how everything turned out!

Ahhh "quality number 1"

Just one last update for everybody:

I got the Ex back from the dealer last night, and everything is going fine.

Thanks for everybody's help!

Will it ever end?!?!

I went to add a quart of oil this evening, just a routine thing, nothing noteworthy.

And then I noticed that for some reason, the dealership took the lightbulb out of the underhood light fixture.

I distinctly remember the fact that the light was there when I took it in, because I noticed the light go out and the area get noticably darker when the battery broke.

I know the light was there. And yet, today, there is no bulb in the fixture.

I don't even really know what to say. I will stop by the dealership on Thursday afternoon and see if they can give me another bulb

LoL, they will probably charge you......Well try for sure.

I have a feeling they'll try to charge me. Wow, isn't this a pain.

i dont think ive taken my mustang in to them except for a few things i was too lazy for. One time for the new tranny, the rest was the fuel filter, an oil change, and the squeak in the windows. other then that i tend to keep my car away from those bad people :)

You've left us hanging......

So what exact problems did they find and what did this adventure cost. Was it power steering leaking and/or the tranny. There has to be a story here.

Aaaaah, sorry about that.

I could've sworn I said what exactly was up with it.

First and most obviously, they replaced the battery.
Second, they found that the transmission fluid was low because a leak. They fixed the leak and refilled the transmission fluid.
Thirdly, the power steering fluid was what was leaking in my driveway. They fixed up that leak and filled it back up with power steering fluid.

i now you mentioned it somewhere

And, just to be even more generally annoying, it turns out I do have basketball practice tomorrow, so I won't be making it to the dealership til this weekend
