Ok my transmission just started slipping and it only does it when I put it in gear forward or reverse. then when I get to a light and stop its starting to slip out of gear, when I give it gas it pops back into gear. So I adjusted the linkage. no go. then I changed the filter and the oil hoping that would solve it. But gues what its been neither so the more and more i mess with it the closer I get to the awful words of "repair shop". does anyone have any ideas as to what it might be. besides the awful words.

Oh Ive watched my rpms to make sure there not to low and they are at the same as they have always been around 600 - 700.

Thanks anyone

also if it is some the repair shop has to do does anyone have a rough idea of what i might be looking at as far as a price.

Hold on to your wallet!!

If yours is the automatic A4LD, then it is known to begin to fail after 100k miles or so. I know, mine had similar symptoms (2 rebuilds now). In any case, it's expensive - $1,200 - $1,800. The problem is, at least for me, is you are at the mercy of the tranny shop. They can tell you anything really, and how are you going to know the difference?

At least the guys I used took the time to show me the differences in a A4LD and trannys like a GM. Ford uses stamped parts in places rather than quality machined parts. Many other differences are there also, too numerous to go in to here.

Read the threads here about A4LD, then ask around, get tranny shop recommendations, talk to these guys and judge for yourself.

Good luck!!
