Here is some back story first.... A couple months ago my transmission went out I ripped all the teeth off the sun gear. I don't know how but I did lol....

Anyways I pulled the motor and trans, I had them both rebuilt. I put a master combo kit from PATC (transmissioncenter.org) Monday I got the transmission back and I have been working on putting it al back together. And yesterday I cranked the truck and Iu fired on the first shot I was very please since that was my very first complete rebuild with no help. Anyway I put fluid in the trans and lost count and put two quarts to much in it and it shifted slow so I drained two quarts and I noticed that where the bell housing and block meet I was leaking trans fluid. Is it possible that its because I put to much fluid in it?

Something else after I drain the fluid I went and drove the truck to check everything and I had to get on it and it shuddered a bit the took off. It also takes it longer to shift into second if your easy on it where before it went out it would shift into second around 2500 rpm under normal driving conditions now I will go to 3000 or higher. Is that because of the shift kit or something else I have over had a shift kit so I don't know how things act with one. I only have about ten miles on the trans so I don't think everything has had time to break in or set but I really hope something isn't messed up and its ktruck me bein paranoid.

Help is greatly appreciated thank you everyone

This may or may not make a difference but when I was putting the trans in I was only able to put to quarts of fluid in the torque converter

Did you use a tool to seat the torque converter properly?

High RPM 1-2 shifts are often due to failure of the vacuum modulator or governor.

Vacuum modulator may be unplugged or seized up. You can check it through the access panel in the floor. It's on the right side of the tranny and one bolt holds it in. Check the vacuum line running to it.

Governor is a little more tricky to get at; typically people will have a sticky governor when the trans fluid is cold. Mine has a delayed 1-2 shift when the trans temp is under 60 degrees.

I didn't know there was a special tool to set the torque converter where can I get it and how much does it cost? I was told to put the torque converter on and push it in and spin it at the same time and it should "drop" in and it did. Did that not work ?

i have done some reading and my tc only "clicked" or "dropped" in one time where everyone is saying it should do it twice. well there is a problem that i can fix but i have one question if it only went in once instead of twice how am i able to drive it? im goin to park it today and not drive it till i fix the tc, also is there any other things i can do to double check that i have it in all the way?

shift kits will hold gears longer.did you adjust your down shift cable?i wouldnt think the engine and trans would even bolt all the way together if the tq doesnt seat all the way

If You mean the kick down cable no I haven't. SHould I?

maybe i just got lucky. it acts as if the tc isnt engaged all the way it takes a lot of rpm to move it like it has a stalled tc and i know for sure it only went in once

Pretty sure that if it dont go in all the way the pump wouldnt be working,2nd "click" pretty sure drives the pump.did u replace your tq? Have you been taking it very easy for the first 500 miles? Have you adjusted your bands sense you've been driving on it?. Sounds to me your either low on fluid or you glazed your band

yes i replaced the tc and its been driving like that since i put it together i only have a about 40 miles on it and yes i have been easy on it and fluid level is right just slowly leakin in the bell housing

No offense, some dont know but you are checking it when its warm/running and in neutral right?i would check your bands also before you go dropping it.

running hot and in park and its in the hash marks and hot do i check the bands?

You will have to do a search for band adjustment, cant remember of the top of my head.

i talked to a guy that works in one of the shops here in paris where i live and he told me that i may have a bad tc or front pump since its leakin behind the tc. is it possible that i didnt seat the tc and busted the front pump ?

It's entirely possible.

As for band adjustment, there are adjusters on the drivers side of the transmission. The procedure is pretty easy to do and will only require basic tools plus an inch/pound torque wrench. If you do a search there is a how-to thread on this board.

Does anyone know what the trans pressure is suppose to be? I was told that the pressure in reverse is suppose to be double of what the pressure is in park. The pressure was 75 both in park and in reverse there is something really wrong.

Did you or someone else rebuild and install the shift kit? I honestly know very little about autos,so trying to help as much as possible. I did help rebuild mine and i rebuilt the valve body by myself

I had someone else rebuild it and put the shift kit in and I just put the tc in and bolted everythm together
