I'm guessing it's quite a lot of work. The t-case has to come off first, I know that. I just had my tranny replacement quoted at the Ford dealer, $2650 for a reman tranny (3yr unlimited mile warranty serviceable anywhere) plus $710 in labor (8 hour range?). That labor includes a flush of the tranny cooler (present with tow package). I have the codes as well as a griding/rattling torque converter and 5th gear is all but unuseable. With as many things have gone wrong on my 02, replacing with a reman makes a lot more sense to me than a rebuild.

).

Don't know if this is the same as Mitchell Book Hours, but 2 years ago while I was at an AAMCO Transmission shop, the shop manager told me they charge 10 hours labor or $850 to remove, rebuild (labor time only) and re-install an Explorer 4x4 tranny. The cost for any new parts needed for the tranny rebuild would be added on to the $850 labor charge.

I reset the computer using the code scanner and the problem still occurs. Transmission has to be toast.
How do you check the servo and solenoid without taking the whole thing apart ?

Ya because the resetting the computer solves all problems and the transmission is powered entirely by electrical impulses right... oh wait its not just because a problem still occurs after you "reset the computer" dosent mean its not a hard part failure... again check servos in particular the overdrive servo and the solenoid pack...a how to guide for both can be found in the transmission section n the stickies at the top, ul have to look there yourself.
