I have a 93 Explorer, transmission was rebuilt 65,000miles ago, today on way home from work when going up a hill noticed what seemed like a vibration or kind of like a standard transmission using too high a gear. When I got to a stop and went to go there seems to be a bit of hesitation like engine revs nothing going on then kind of slowly engages. Transmission fluid level is fine, now when going thru this site I did notice mention of trying it in drive and see what happens, so will do that later. It seems to me that the torque converter was mentioned as causing this problem but seemed it was on a later model year. Some input appreciated so I will have somewhat of an idea what the problem is. I know when the transmission was rebuilt, another issue, they had not originally replaced the torque converter but after having a problem in the first week they did. Now as stated another issue there cause the shop was very proud to tell me they replaced all essential parts, then had to go back for converter, pump, servo, so would like to have a better idea what to expect.

First off, never go back to that shop again. They are obviously idiots if they rebuilt a tranny and did not use a new or rebuilt converter. It sounds like your torque converter might not be unlocking correctly. I was told once that every single part in the tranny was changed before. Cost an eye boggling 2500, just to have the trans fall apart in 30K miles. The next shop said it was obviously a "patch job", and they were able to guess the shop that did it.
