- 2002 Explorer XLT
Hello Everyone!
I am am the new owner of an 02 Explorer XLT. Driving it last weekend i noticed a few hesitations between shifting gears while on freeway so i took it my transmission guy for service....
He called me and said that there is metal on the magnent and that the tranny is at the end of its life and i probably only have a few hundred more miles left to go. This doesent make sense to me because other than the very occasional hesitation to shift between gears it seems to be working fine (no slip ect).
My question is how long does this transmission typically last and what will i start to see happening typically when it actually fails. Also, what can i expect to pay for a rebuild and is it difficult to remove the tranny myself at home just to help offset the cost.
Thanks!!!
Ken
