come on guys some has experience with this on here PLEASE HELP ME! :(

please do not bump your post, unless it has been 24 hours.

Anyhow, a Jasper remanufactured transmission will cost you about the same as what they are rebuilding it at. Comes with a great 36/75K warranty as well. I would highly recommend them over a rebuild - why? rebuild only fixes the problem that you were having while leaving the rest of the stuff in there. A remanufactured trans/motor will replace everything that doesn't meet specs. That is a great way to go.

he's right. why pay the same price for a half ass rebuild when you can get a new one for the same price?

well i was told i would be getting a complete rebuild with upgrades for that price and jasper wants 2800 for it and that is almost a thousand more that i was gonna be spending and i do need to find out about the warranty thing i totally didnt ask about so thanks but i dont know what to do about the rebuilt still i dont really want to spand 3000 when i can spend 2000 and it is a complete rebuild for the 2000. so what do you think i should do.

by the way sorry for the early bump i am just anxious to know because it is getting worse every day so HELP please

thanks for eveyones imput

What kind of problem are you having with it? Shops always tell you that it needs to be rebuilt. Did you read any of the posts, or diaries in the transmission section? It's possible that you could get by with a couple hundred dollars in VB modifications, or some other adjustments. Sometimes a sensor on the engine could be causing a driveability problem, and make it appear like the transmission.

basically the gears are not cathcing from first to second and second to third but i have mechanical ability so i deffinately wont be doing it myself but i do understand what you are saying, and i am starting to lose power from it now so i think it has to be rebuilt

well i actually had a mechanic friend of mine check the solenoid and he said they didnt need to be replaced but i dont think that is it is not engaging the shift

it was explained like this to me it is that the teeth that need to grab are not catching properly and are grinding down that is why it is shifting so late and hard because that is what it is , it started with just the 1 to 2 and now it has spread to the 2 to 3, so maybe just have the solenoids replaced anyways because that is what the mechanic told me he thought it was to when i brought it in to him originally any othere thoughts or ideas?

thanks for everything guys

I would suggest that you read the 5R55E valve body rebuild diary. The only gears in an automatic transmission are the planetary gears. I think that mechanic was trying to say he thought that it might have been the clutch plates. How many miles do you have?

If your EPC solenoid is original, then it is quite overdue for a replacement. I would still suggest changing that part along with doing a pressure test before, and after. How did that mechanic check the solenoid? Does he have a transmission solenoid testing tool? This solenoid is modulated, and requires a special tester. It's not like a solenoid where you could just apply 12 volts, or check how many ohms it is. It's operation depends upon duty cycle with a shifting frequency. This is why it is one of the most fast wearing solenoids in there. It is constantly changing it's output to correspond to a varying signal.

anyone have any experience with a good shop in the oc area?? please?

I would suggest checking on WWW.Atra.Com to see which shop in your area is a member of ATRA. ATRA stands for Automatic Transmission Rebuilder's Association. If you have a problem with a shop that is under their membership, you could contact them. Their members want to have their certification, so they should be more accomodating in the event of any disagreement. They also have access to ATRA's database for looking up specific problems, so they should be knowledgeable. ATRA also has workshops, and seminars that train them.

Tranny

Click on this website: (dead link) and send Wayne a message with your type of transmission. They will sell you a brand new Ford tranny with the TransGo shift kit already installed for less than the prices your getting quoted for rebuilds.

Bill

They're out your way...........somewhere..........Saratoga

Billy, I once wanted to buy a brand new transmission from a Ford dealer. 3 dealerships told me that it was impossible to buy a new one, only a remanufactured one. I bought one from them, and it was total junk! For the money they charged me, I could have rebuilt 4 of them. In the end, I had to rebuild it. The one that that they gave me had no upgraded parts. The one that I used as a core had more upgraded parts. How could this place have brand new ones when even a dealer can't get a new one?

yah i was kinda wondering that same thing how can i get a new one i thought i could only rebuild it or get one that is rebuilt already

I saw this ad for a place down the street from me. It seems like a good deal. Maybe they have similar prices for your year. It is not too long a drive from Costa Mesa(45 minutes)

Good luck,

I would think a drop of the pan is in order. If you don't find any metal in the pan there is a good chance it doesn't need rebuilding. There are a lot of valve body gasket problems with this transmission. If you check the valve body bolts I bet you will find at least four of them can be removed with just your fingers. Remember these only tighten with a light twist of the wrench. Test operation in manual 1 and 2 and look for engine braking foing down a slight hill at idle. Manual 2 on the lever is really THIRD, second in this transmission is a made up gear. If people would just tighten the valve body bolts at 70K there wouldn't be that many problems with this transmission. I bought a spare '99 transmission with only 52K with bad gasket. Haven't had to use it yes and I almost have 200K on mine. Bought this vehicle used and the fluid was as nasty as I have ever seen. A few drains and some bolt tightening it has gone another 87K with no problems. Around 99 they had some EP problems including cracking of the bracket that holds it. Most of what people will tell you about transmissions is totally wrong. Do your own research.
