Transmission slipping in a 96 Explorer.

My 96 Explorer trans sometimes hard shift between 1st/2nd. Several days of hard shifting and then no problems, doesn't seem to be a pattern. the vehicle has over 200K odometer has not work in years. Not to good on the PM aspect, unknown last fluid and filter change. Fluid level is good no burned odor. No check engine or O D light.

Welcome to this forum! How many miles does it have? When was the last time the fluid, and filter were replaced?

If it has a (A4ld) trans Trans code "T", it has a vacuum modulator, controlling shift points, sticking or leaking diafragm, (trans oil at vac manifold)

The 4R55E doesn't have a modulator like the A4LD.
