transmission slipping

I have a 1997 xlt automatic 4wd with 173000 miles on it while driving at different speeds once in while i hear a whinning noise (like shifting from drive to park while moving) then i put it in neutral and back into drive or give it more gas and then its fine. sometimes it never happens.

Welcome to this forum! Did you ever drop the transmission pan to replace the fluid & filter? If not, then it would be a good time to do this along with checking the valve body gasket, and bolts.

just wanted to say thank you for your advice it turns out its in my transfercase i will give you more info as i receive it
