I have a 97 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4 w/ control track (113,000 miles).
The problem I am having is, when you turn on the truck and drive it for ten minutes the car will go into neutral. You then I have to turn off the truck and let it cool down to get my power back (5 minutes or less). A friend of my who is a mechanic (but not super knowledgeable about Fords) checked the trany fluid (not burnt but was over full by two quarts). He drained the fluid to its proper level and put in Trans-X which did not help. He also checked everything else he possibly could and it all came out fine. There is the grinding or bumping of the trany...just the power loss.
I have taken the truck to a shop that specializes in Ford tranys and they say I have to replace it. My buddy says it can be the solenoid valve or something.
After that long explanation, does anybody on here have an opinion on this? Any help would be great.
