Transmission types

Sorry if this is already a post but I couldn't find one. I'm fairly confident the valve body gasket on my 5.0 AWD tranny is bad but I cant seen to figure out if I have a 5R55E or a 4R70W. Is there a way to check using the Vin or do certain tranny's ONLY come in certain years and sub models? The problem I am having is when I shift into gears there is no power unless I give the truck a lot of throttle and it shifts very randomly unless on the highway, almost feels like it is in limp mode. There is little to no engagement when you go into reverse or drive but it will move when you hit the throttle. It does not make any abnormal noise and the fluid is not burnt and has no shavings in it. I plan on pulling the pan soon but need some help on trans type and where I can get decent parts for a decent price.

Does the issue seem like it could be a valve body gasket? Has anyone had a similar issue??

I'm far from being a transmission expert, but from what you described I'm wondering if it may be torque converter/pump related. It guess it could also be valve body gasket related if it's blown and causing a pressure loss.

Yeah I guess you could get a similar issue from a bad torque converter. Everything I've read leads me to believe it's a valve body gasket. I guess I'm just hoping that's lol it is too. Truck has 206K on it so you never really know.
