First off i would like to say that i am not professional when it comes to automatic transmissions. I had training on them and passed my ASE but i only have a limited knowldge a little more than your usuall shade tree mechanic that can turn a wrench. So here is the info on the truck and the problem

Problem started this past summer. I live oversea's in europe and my SUV stays at home so no rush at the moment i just want to get her road worthy so i can drive when im home. Anyway I changed the transmission fluid per guide lines in the ford manual. Everything went as stated. No signs of metal chunks or anything that looked unusual. Fluid was clean and not burnt but had just a little metal on the magnent thats on the pan. Cleaned everything and changed the filter. After filling her back up i made sure i put it in every gear and make sure everything was fine. Like it should everything checked out. Took her for a spin but still had a slight delay (2-5 seconds) after shifting into gear and a slight clunk. I drove it with no problems (20 miles) Later that day i was on a local road going about 50mph and felt like my over drive turned off. I check it and the RPM's read that the over drive was off but the light was not on. I drove about a mile more to get home and right as i was pulling in to my section the O/D light started to blink. Pulled the code and as i suspected the it lead me to the tq converter sol. I did not have enough time to further diagnose it since i had to go back to germany. I later came home for about a week to get all of my personal things tied away since i am leaving for iraq in about a week. I did not have much time to look into my SUV but i found that when going up an incline the truck looses all power to the wheels. I am also running rough which leads me to think the ECU went into limp mode. I have read a few TSB's that talk about changing out the main controle body. I am also going to order this TQ converter sol. since its not that expensive. My question now is for the transmission guru's ,is the whole tranny toasted or would it just be what i think it is (TQ converter sol) causing the transmission not to lock or go into overdrive. Also how hard is this to change? I have a garage along with enough tools to take the truck apart so thats not a problem but time is! I have about 2 weeks mid tour to do this fix if its even worth the time. Last but not lease does anyone have a picture of this sol. i am talking about in the transmission along with it out of the transmission so i can get a visual picture. Sorry for the long write but i want to be discriptive as possible so i can get a solid diagnosis rather than shelling out close to 3k for a rebuit transmission.

Do you know what the code number is? Sometimes it could point to the solenoid, but something else could be the culprit (valve body gasket, loose bolts, out of spec EPC, broken band, leaking servo piston, stuck spool or valve in the valve body, etc). Your 5R55E uses discrete solenoids unlike the 5R55W which uses a modular block. There's an updated solenoid bracket. The old style was prone to breaking, and causing the solenoids to get loose, leak, and throw a code.

I will have to get back to you with that code. I cannot remember it off of the top of my head but i want to say it was a P076 or something in that area.
