Greetings all, I have another transmission delima.... its a 2002 XLS 4 door 4.0L 4x2. Ive been reading up on the solenoid replacements, band adjustments etc. Im just not sure which if either of these would help my situation. 2 days ago the tranny starting holding gears and i would have to come off the gas for it to shift up. yesterday when i started it up it sounded like a tin can was bouncing around inside the bell housing and now the engines idle is eratic and it lunges in gear with the brake on. The latter sounds like the converter to me but im no expert. I kind of want to know if anyone has had similar progression of symptoms before I tear it out.
Any insight would be great.

Wow, that does sound bad. I'm no expert but from what I've experienced I'm thinking that your torque converter may be toast.

Good Luck, all I can give you is a bump. Let us know how it comes out.

ok i dropped the pan and there was no metal in the fluid.... the fluid was burned up but no shavings so it doesent look like the converter came apart....
Now im stumped, anyone have any ideas?
