Can anyone tell me if the stock transmission (auto) in a 2000 XLT with the 4.0 SOHC is the same transmission used in the 2000 V-8 (auto)? Thanks guys. Don

They aren't the same. I can't remember the designation for the 4.0 SOHC 5-speed, but the V8 has a 4-speed called the 4R70W.

The '97-'00 5-speed auto is a 5R55E. It is not the same as the 4-speed auto that came with the 5.0L. I think the new 4.6L V8 gets a modified 5R55E now instead of the 4-speed auto but I'm not positivive on that one.
