Transmisssion question which one do I have.

We just bought a 97 V8 awd that had a bad tranny and was supposedly getting a replacement tranny the guy had bought to fix.
Well we got there and made the deal in the dark and I failed to look closely. I didn't noticed the bellhousing on the replacement tranny was small looking but it was late and I was tired.

Any way the next morning the first thing I notice is the BH is definitely not a small block ford and the start is on the drivers side. The tranny is definitely a ford 4X4 tranny. So my question is is this gonna be for the 4.0 trans?

One other question.. if it's the 4.0 tranny will it fit the 4.0sohc engine also or is there a difference in those tranny's as well.

4r70w which is the only trans for v8. The 6 cylinder will not bolt up.

oh yeah I know which one is in the v8 explorer. I'm trying to figure out which one I have as an extra one now. will the v6 tranny fit both the 4.0 and the 4.0 SOHC or are they different. Just out of curiosity are the 4.0's the same engine with just different longblock parts? Are the 4.0's both the same short blocks Iguess is a better question?
