I have a 2008 Ford Explorer 4.0L 5R55S
From reading the forums it seems I need to have two keys to be able to program another spare. If only one key, then need to go to a dealer who using his equipment clears the old key code from PATS and programs two new keys in. But we do not have any official dealers (used to be, but stopped selling fords). Is it possible to do this on your own? What equipment or software do you need?
Also, in my vehicle, does it have any control module specific to the transmission? Or is everything controlled by PCM? My transmission most of the time engages R with a bump. Shifts are also quite bumpy. Especially when accelerating (not hard) and you let go of the pedal just before the next shift, then it engages with a jolt on your back. Though sometimes everything is smooth. I have read programming update can sometimes alleviate this. Again, what kind of equipment necessary?
