hello everyone my name is bill. i am a new member from willowick,ohio. maybe someone can give me some helpfull info. i just purchased a 2002 mercury mountaineer 4.6 ltr awd at auction. there is no key's and the shifter on the column was gone. so i bought a used column with only one transponder key. installed column and what do you know it would not crank over. i found some info on alldata program it say's i can reprogram the pcm with out dealer soft ware but i need two transponder key's. if anyone has any info that would help please e-mail me at bluhmwilliam@yahoo.com

if you only have one key, there is no way of programming it yourself. Also the original key is still programmed in the PATS module so it has to go to a dealer either way to have the PATS reset and have a minimum of two new keys programmed. The column just reads the chip in the key and has nothing to do with security. It is all located in the PATS module

You might be able to have the work done cheaper from a locksmith.
 






can walmart do it they have a machine thats reads the key and programs the blanks. or does something else have to be done to get the key to work after walmart programs it. i have also heard that you can a regular key made and use it as long as you have the right transponder taped to it. dont know how true that is. can anyone confirm that?
