My trany won't go forward only backwards. I am thinking it had something to do with being stuck in some serious mud the day before. I was looking at the top of the bellhousing and it looks pretty cramped for space to get to the bolts. If anyone has taken one of these out, can you please give me some tips of how to do it the easiest way. Thanx

U-joints and extensionsare your best friend. Take everything off y-pipe, cats, driveshaft(s) When I pulled mine I left the transfer case attached. Also there is an access panel on the center hump inside the vehical which is accessable after pulling the seats and carpet. Its not necessary but makes it alittle easier to get at some bolts.

thanks for you help, i was looking at it today and that Ypipe is gonna have to come off, i also took off the radius arm crossmember, i only have the bell housing bolt above the starter to go yet, and then the flywheel bolts to go then.

I am actually going through the same process on my 93 right now, and ended up breaking 1 bolt on the driver side exhaust manifold. The passenger side, I can't move with a damn 1/2" impact! This is after spraying with WD-40 the previous day, and during the attempts to remove. I finally said screw it, and grabed a sawzall. BTW Summit has header and Y-pipe kits to fit our rides. I just bought the painted Pacesetter set. (funds are tight) :( Oh yeah figure on pulling the hood, it makes getting to the 2 top bellhousing bolts somewhat easier.

A few more tips... PB blaster and a tourch propane, mapp gass, or O/A will help with the y-pipe go from under the vehical with an extension to remove those if you don't have an impact wrench just use a breaker bar. Also if you take the spark plugs out it makes it easier to turn the flywheel to un-bolt the torque converter. My flywheel was busted and turned freely to remove. Another thing the access panel is how I got at the top bolts, with some u-joints and extensions. Plus having the seats out gave me a good opportunity to clean my carpet. One last thing if you have a harbour freight around you I got a kick ass trans jack for like $40. Good luck

Long extensions, u-joints, and a breaker bar for the tranny bolts. Sometimes we can get straight at them if we have long enough extentions. Sometimes from above the t-case. We have some that are 3', then various lengths down. I have broken a few extensions over the years though.
