ok here it is 4.0 auto trany i have 4 inch suspension lift and i just put a set of 35x12.50 on it and yesterday i took it for a long drive up and down hills on the highway and when i got to where i was going i could smell trany fluid i stopped to park and when i hit the gas to move up a little it wouldn't move till i hit about 1500 rpm and it kicked in so i shut it off and got out and looked and it was leaking fluid out the front seal so i went to where i was going came back and put about a quart and a half of fluid in it and it was fine started back and made it about 20 miles and it started blowing out fluid again so i slowed down and went to give gas to get over in the ditch and it wouldn't move again so i went with a freind to get a chain came back started it up put in rewind and went in put it in drive and it went in so we still pulled it back to my grandparents house i haven't moved it yet today so i thought about adding fluid and trying again today what could be the problem is the fluid getting to hot and boiling out the seal if so should i get an after market trany cooler help me figure this out please

Internals worn+big tires =heat

Do yourself a favor and rebuild it now- although it sounds like it needed rebuilt a few thousand mles ago. I would take it in have the clutches and bands replaced. Could also be a pump problem- a new pump is a good idea. The larger tires are working the internals hard- what is your axle ratio with the 35s. If you havent changed the axle ratios to compensate for the increased tire diameter your converter is creating a bunch more heat as compensates for the lack of gearing.
The heat is a sign of something and a cooler is a good idea, but it wont keep the problem from happening again if the clutches and bands are gone. If it is heating up enough to boil the fluid, the seals and soft parts are going to be toast in short order, and hard parts wont be too far behind if left as it is. Soft part rebuild is $12-1400 and add some hard parts and you will be looking at $2000+.

Basically Im syaing the cooler wont fix the problems, just mask it and make them worse. Fix the problem and then put the biggest cooler you can fit on it.

thanks stevevb i just bought the trany used 4 weeks ago and it was $700 used up it didnt fry it but it probably did the ratio is 3:55i no it is high but i never had the money to change them yet
