ok im stuck between getting a new tranny and rebuilding mine my father in law thinks we can do either but i want to get a idea of what might be wrong

in novermber i was leaving work started truck took off and there was a pop sound and the truck wouldnt move but i can put it in drive 2 and it will take off and once i get to about 25-30 mph i can shift it up by hand to drive and it will continue through the gears ive been driving it that way since and it did fine untill i went to go to work the other morning and i had no reverse but i can still go forward in low 2

any ideas on what it may be it might be two different problems but any help would be awsome

Sounds like you busted your reverse band (which from reading on here will also take out manual first)

I just had the same problem, had my transmission rebuilt.

This is simple to test. Drop the pan, remove the low/reverse servo, and cover. Insert a long phillips screwdriver into the hole, and see if you could feel the band flex every time you push the screwdriver against it.
