i would like to put truck bed liner on all the lower exterior plastic and on my roof rack. Is this something that is possible, will the truck bed liner stick to plastic? I pressure wash my explorer after going into mud so i don't want the bed liner to blast off.

Its all about the prep work. Properly preped and applied it will stick good. You still may have to do touch ups every now and again, but that is with any bed liner (professional or DIY).

I wouldn't DIY. It will look cr@ppy IMO --then what will you do? I would seek professional guidance on this one. At least ask your local Linex (etc.) rep.

I personally spary Vortex brand liners (very comparable to line-x) and no matter what you do bedliner sticks poorly to plastic. It adheres better when scuffed up with some 80 grit but most of the time you can peel it right back off. I would try a plastic primer then a coating of your choice.

hmmm so is this just a bad idea, i was also thinking of coating my roof rack because its got so much wax residue on it that it looks faded.

truck bed liner: plastic YAY!! or neh:(

Take a firm bristle paint brush and cut the bristles to where they are about 3/4" long. Then use the tip and tap the residue out. It has to be dry so it comes off like dust. This will bring wax off any of the textured plastic pieces.

thanks but im still painting them with a can of flat rustoleum.

Those DIY bedliner will fade over time and do chip easily. I painted my rocker panels on my Chevy years back and had to repaint them every year due two fading.

I just did the roof rack on my 2000 Eddie Bauer because the paint was chipped and it looked really bad. I took the rails and cross members off, sanded the heck out of them with some 80 grit and power washed. Once dry I coated it with the black spray can bedliner from Walmart. After that dried i gave it a coat of clear Krylon UV protectant.

It looks absolutely awesome!!!! It has only been a few weeks so i can't speak for any fading yet. Even if it does fade over time it is super easy to remove and touch up or redo.

I repainted the whole rack on my 02 mounty it was peeling bad. I sanded it and used I used a "trim paint" maybe Dupli-color from Advance auto. It turned out pretty good. I wish I had done a better job in a couple places sanding.
