Today I drove the truck around town and everything was fine. I attempted to go to work. I put the truck into drive but the car was acting like it was in neutral. When I shifted to park, the car thought it was in reverse. Now the car will not shift at all (gear lever is very loose). The car wont start because it thinks its in reverse. After doing some research I started thinking that it could be the shift cable.

I have attached a picture I took tonight under the car. I circled in red what I think is wrong. It appears that cable and lever should be connected.

Any ideas if this looks like I am going in the right direction?

I recently had the car towed for an ignition issue and the tow truck driver manually (under the car) but the truck into neutral so it would roll on the tow truck.

I am thinking he damaged something when he did that.

Thanks for the help

Have someone move the shift lever while you watch for appropriate movement of the Transmission Range Switch, on the left side of the transmission. Note whether the MOUNTING of the switch is moving. If the problem is not in the lever/cable connection, the TRS mounting screws may have loosened. imp
