I just bought my 05 Explorer XLT about a month ago and it runs great. About 2 weeks ago I was on my way to the post office going down the road with cruise on and my car stalled out. The other day on my way home from work, I was behind a cop. I put my cruise control on and I drove another block or so and all of a sudden my car just shut off.

Does anyone know what is going on with this? The car starts right back up after it shuts off and I take it out of gear. There where no warning signs or anything and I only have 30k miles on it. Has this happened to anyone else?

is this the v6 flex fuel model? if so i know of one other case where this was happening.. it ended up being the throttle body.

1. Monitor the voltage across the throttle actuator wires while the problem is occurring. To do this, backprobe the positive lead of a voltmeter into the Dark Blue/Yellow wire at the 2-wire at the actuator, or at pin 47 of connector C175e at the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). Backprobe the negative lead of the meter into the Orange/Yellow wire at pin 2 of the throttle actuator connector, or at pin 48 of C175e.

2. Monitor DC voltage across these 2 wires while the problem is occurring. If any positive voltage is still present while the problem is occurring, the indication is that the PCM is still commanding the throttle plate open, and the higher the voltage, the harder the PCM is trying to open the throttle plate.

...so basically in this situation the PCM is functioning correctly with the throttle body but the throttle body is not listening.

if the thottle body tests okay then your problem is most likely the PCM..which is reprogramable at the ford dealership.

give that a shot.. hope it helps
