I have a 2000 4.0 Sohc with the awesome timing chain rattle and cold start issue. For the longest time i just drove around with it because i had no idea why i had the problems and figured I dont have the money to fix it anyway.
Thanks to this forum I figured out that there was actually a recall (00M12) That is supposed to fix every problem with my truck, making it perfect. first thing i did was head up to my local stealership and check to see if my truck was eligible for the recall (having 136,000 miles and being 10 years old i figured not, but what could it hurt?) Sure enough, I wasn't eligible. Being a fairly competent mechanic i decided to take matters into my own hands...

I found the numerous write up's on this site on how to do the 00M12 kit and thought nothing could go wrong, All i had to do was remove the intake manifold, swap some gaskets and change the tensioner, what could go wrong?

I took my truck over to a friends house, because he has more tools than me and is better organized, i heard the job can be time consuming and i wanted to have my truck back in commission as fast as possible. I got everything torn down fairly quick, changing the O-Rings with ease, and even the tensioner proved to be a pretty simple job. I slapped everything back together, very proud of myself for performing the task so effortlessly. First try on startup i cranked the truck and it wouldn't catch. My friend instantly noticed that i was spitting fuel from my fuel rail. It was about 2 in the morning by now and I had him tow me home via tow strap (10 mile trek, not fun).

The next day I tore it all down again, found that I messed up the O-rings in the fuel rail putting the main feed back on. Ran up to the auto parts store and grabbed some new O-rings. I put everything back together, being extra careful to make sure all sensors were re-connected and all vacuum lines put back. Tried to start the truck up and still nothing.

Im so sure that I didnt forget to put anything back on, I'm so confused why my truck wont start.. In a last attempt I rented an OBD-II scanner from the auto parts store.

Error codes:
P0765 - Shift solenoid D Malfunction
P1357 - Ignition Diagnostic Monitor Pulsewidth Not Defined
P0140 - HO2S Circuit Insufficient Activity Bank 1 Sensor 2
P1405 - Differential Pressure Feedback Sensor Upstream Hose Off Or Plugged

If anyone has suggestions on how to fix this please help, this truck is my only means of transportation and i need to get it fixed asap

1st double check all your work. then you may have to reset the OBD-II codes. if you tried to start it the first time and threw a bunch of codes, then the ECM will hold those codes until you clear them. do this by clearing them with the code reader, or unhooking the negative (-) cable from the battery for an hour or so.... honestly i dont know what any of those codes mean off the top of my head, so i wouldnt know how to diagnose any of them...

unplugged the battery for an hour and plugged the scanner in, read 0 codes, checked and re-checked none came up.. Turned the key and it cranked and cranked, nothing, pulled the plug and I have no spark.

..... hmmm, i'm not too sure what to make of that.... i think the "HO2S Circuit Insufficient Activity" means there's a problem with the Heated O2 Sensor Circuit. could be the sensor itself or a problem in the wiring.

"P0765 - Shift solenoid D Malfunction" sounds like transmission....

i'm not really sure what "P1357 - Ignition Diagnostic Monitor Pulsewidth Not Defined" means, but it doesnt sound too good.... that may be why you dont have a spark....

"P1405 - Differential Pressure Feedback Sensor Upstream Hose Off Or Plugged" has to do with emissions i believe.... i think it will be a sensor connected to the exhaust by a hose... the code itself pretty much explains that the hose could be off, or it could be unplugged....

you didn't, by chance happen to leave the ignition on while you were working on the truck did you? or turn it on at any point while all the sensors were unplugged? usually before doing something big like that, it's a good idea to completely disconnect the battery, to eliminate any chance of electrical/computer problems developing. that could have thrown all the codes.... but i'm not really sure why you wouldnt be getting any spark, unless the "P1357 - Ignition Diagnostic Monitor Pulsewidth Not Defined" code means there's a problem with the ignition system or the PCM's ignition parameters.....

sorry, i wish i knew more to help you out but that's all i can guess at right now :( you might have to break down and take it to a shop if you can't get it resolved on your own...

go back to basics...

first does your check engine light come on with "key on" and stay on????? Next during starting, does the check engine light go off???? Then do you have fuel pressure at the rail??? Do you have spark? Lastly, do you have compression???

Ignore past codes

I would ignore the past DTCs because they are no longer current and you said you no longer have them after clearing the Keep Alive Memory. The KAM should be cleared after about 5 minutes of disconnected battery. If you're sure that you have no spark then focus on fixing that first. Check to see if you have battery voltage to the coil pack. With the key on and the electrical connector disconnected there should be +12 volts on the outside pin (red/lt green) and ground. If not, check Fuse 19 in the interior fuse panel next to the driver pillar.

no power to fuse 19?

If fuse 19 is good but there is no power to it when the ignition switch is ON then check fuse 1 (60 amps) in the power distribution box under the hood. Fuse 1 gets power via black wire that comes from the starter relay common connection to the battery terminal (red wire).
