Hi I'm new to this site but have been searching it for a while. I recently bought a 99 sport and it was giving me a 1071 and 1074 too lean code. I changed the intake gasket's today and went to start it.

Turns out that I had the spark plug wire's in the wrong spots on the coils. Fixed that and it started but ran like sh*t at idle. It shook back and forth like crazy until I revved it a bit. I turned it off now it won't start again. It cranks and you can smell gas out the tailpipe. Any chance it's flooded? I've given up for today and will check spark plug wires at the plugs and disconnect battery to clear the misfire code that more then likely happened. I don't know if it's throwing a code as somewhere along the line the mil light stopped working. I only knew there was a code as of the e test that it failed.

It's a 4.0 ohv btw. One other thing is that there is no cap on my IAC valve. There is just the little pipe opening showing. Should I cap that off?
Any other idea's?

Ok so as of this morning truck does start and run. However it now idle's much rougher then it did before. I've checked everything and cleaned IAC. I did find some thin fluid in the last runner closest to firewall of the plenum when I removed it. Is that a bad sign? I hope it doesn't mean a head gasket or cracked head. The truck doesn't smoke any more then any other car on start up or running.

are you getting any codes?

I'd check the plugs and wires if you just reused them and make sure they are in good condition.

Also if you are worried about a head gasket or cracked head some tell tale signs are oil in coolant, coolant in oil, and obviously the smoking. If you want to be certain you can do a compression test and make sure all the cylinders have good compression.
