OK, so here is my question:

With the lack of room under the 00 Mountie I was considering running the drivers side exhaust out in front of the rear tire, then the pass side over the axle and out the back.

Would this solve the unequal length issue?

What I was thinking was to remove the secondary cats with the drivers side muffler as far forward as possible, then the pass side as far back (just before the axle) then over and out.

I should end up with a fairly equal length true dual set-up.

The gas tank is all up in the way. Plus its not a good idea putting the exit in front of a rear tire on a suv.

My idea is to put two mufflers where one is now, nothing to do with the gas tank.

What would be the reason not to exit one of the pipes in front of the rear wheel?

Why is an SUV different than a car, truck, or van?

Technically you're not supposed to exit an exhaust system near the passenger compartment. That being said my 99 is a side exit in front of the rear tire and it's badass lol. Oh and by the way I never smell any fumes whatsoever in my truck the way my exhaust is.

I miss-read your post and thought you wanted to put the pipe on the drivers side, not the passenger. You can fit 2 mufflers there all day, I have 2 mufflers there with side exits on my 5.0 ranger. They exit about 3 feet behind my passenger window. Its state law here in Va that the exhaust has to exit behind the passenger compartment.

Exhuast gases float upward and with side pipes on an explorer you will have gases going right by your passenger rear window. You are playing with carbon monoxide, choose the exit location wisely.
