I am considering getting a Limited Slip Differential for my 92 XLT (3.73 open diff currently). Any recommendations for going with the Detroit TrueTrac versus the Auburn?

Also, has anyone run both of these front and back?

My driving will be mostly on-road, but I do go off-road some of the time. In fact, to get rid of debt, I traded down from a 99 Dodge Ram Cummins with the factory LSD to the 92 Explorer. During mild off-roading, the Ram would usually get through in 2WD, but I discovered the X had an open diff as I sat spinning on my way up a hill covered in wet grass. I had to go to 4WD to get up. Kind of depressing so now I need to see about getting some traction back!

Is going to the LSD in the back a do-it-yourself project?

I have an Auburn in the back, as do several on the board, and love it. But the Tru-trac is supposed to be the champion of limied slips.
I have front and rear lsd's, the front being a Trac-lok.
If you don't do much offroading, I suggest just getting a Tru-trac in the rear and see how that does for you. Putting anything in the front is alot more time (money) than the rear.

DIY?

Do you think installing the TrueTrac in the rear is a do-it-yourself project? I could get some help from a friend who tears his trucks apart and puts them back together. Or should I just take it to a shop and have it done (and what is a fair price for putting in the TrueTrac)?

Best thing about the True-trac is there are no clutch packs to wear out....It is a gear driven l/s that actually works more like a locker than a l/s and I have one my D35 and love it......It would be my recomendation to go with the True-trac as the Auburn will wear alot quicker......
