Hello

My XLT did not come with factory remote start and after checking for the module my vehicle did not have it preinstalled and disabled.

I bought the ForScan 1 yr license for $13 and downloaded the latest version. I purchased the ForScan recommended OBD link EX for $49. I then went to Tasca and ford parts giant, looking for the perimeter plus security module with remote start and purchased JS7Z-19A361-A.

After installing the module ( leaving the VSS jumper out ) I went into ForScan looking to find the new module. I've looked everywhere, APIM, BdyCM, etc and the module does not show up. I was able to ENABLE remote start, remote start parking lights, perimeter security, etc. Still no module found using ForScan. I figured I'd disconnect the negative cable for 30 mins then reconnect thinking it would then see the new module, nope.

When I disconnected ForScan and turned off the vehicle my display showed interior scan to deactivate press ok. I've never seen this msg in 90K miles, so I figured it must be seeing the module.

Does this need to be activated using IDS ? I also was unable to program the 2 new key FOBs I bought specifically for remote start using the vehicle drivers door unlocked and open, on/off 6x sequence. Mykey says only 2 admin keys are found.

Anyone have an idea or am I stuck with going to the dealer

Thank you

The dealer may program the keyfobs but I doubt they will set up the remote start. It has been mentioned before that they are not in the business of doing modifications.
Does the vehicle have the hood switch?
I don't know if this thread may help. How to: - 2016 Explorer- Adding Remote Start Facts

Did you install a hood pin switch. It is by design a must have for remote starts to keep engine from starting if someone were working in engine bay.

My xlt came with a hood switch and I know it works. Anyone here in the 60004 zip that has done this and can recommend someone to get this sorted out and working?

I want to;

1. activate the perimeter plus security and remote start module
2. set up remote start
3. configure the security system
4. Program the 2 new FOBS for remote start and security plus

I don't mind paying, I just want it active before the snow flies.

Thanks !!

I found this if it helps.

thank you for the video....I've done all the steps except add a ground wire too the hood pin switch because my xlt came with a hood switch and I have verified its working. My issue is that the new OEM ford perimeter plus security and remote start module does NOT show up in ForScan. I have disconnected the negative battery cable and let it sit for 20 mins, reconnect and go into ForScan..., the new module does not show up as do all teh other modules.

Does anyone know if this new module has to be activated via IDS in order to see it? I have tried with the VSS jumper installed and also with it removed. I was able to change the remote start from disabled to enables along with parking lights on during remote start.

I kinda gave up for the time being, and figured I would try to program the 2 new FOB's. I followed the Ford procedure, all doors shut, push unlock on drivers door, cycle vehicle 6x on/off, and put the original keys in the key pocket, within 5 seconds then the new keys.....nothing....MyKey shows only the 2 original admin keys, no additional keys.

I need a little victory here, can anyone tell me the procedure to program the 2 new FOB's? This is a 2018 Explorer XLT.

Thanks in advance

Just for kicks try putting the seat belt on before programming. I seem to remember Dodge needed that done prior to doing something similar.
And if that does not work try again seat belt and parking brake on. Windows up too. Try waiting for dash and interior/exterior lights to power down before starting procedure.

Here is an in depth guide.

I have a 2017 and the remotes I needed were square 3 buutons with a blue trunk release. They required a 40 digit pin to activate thru 4scan.

Do you have a 2017 in addition to the 2016 PIU as shown in your profile?
