Just bought a set of PIAA 9007's. Is there any trick to changing the headlinghts on a 97. Like do you have to push in the light ring to turn it? Any tips or tricks would be appreciated.

help on replacing headlight bulbs

I had the same problem when I tried to replace my bulbs. First I thought there is a way to take the headlight casing out completely which would make it really easy to get to the bulb. Turns out that you cant do it that way. The only way to get to it is to turn this locking ring on the backside of the csing till it opens. mine was pretty hard to open...took me a while...acctually, it was a pain in the butt.. :-) the problem was though that I could barely move my hands in that little space behing the casing. I have really big hands. Finally, I got it done though. Just dont forget to NEVER touch the glass of the bulbs with your hands or fingers... Good luck

On my '96, the light socket on the right side was pretty easy to get to but the left side had a very limited amount of space for you to reach the socket. What I did was that I took the battery out then replace the socket. Once the battery is out, it's very easy to get to. Like what Quakecom said, don't touch the glass with your bare hands or fingers. I recommand you to wear those surgical gloves when you're handling the bulbs. Good luck!!

i upgraded both of our trucks to the 9007 superwhites in about ten minutes total. just felt like rubbing it in, guys. sorry.if it makes y'all feel any better, it took me about an hour and a half to install my 520's.

johnmcgarrah and Quakecom,

I think that there isn't enough space on the '97 Explorer SOHC models. I have the SOHC too and it was near impossible to change my lights. I had to take out the air box on the left and the battery on the right and it was still hard. Only the '97 Explorer SOHC has this problem. At least that is what I'm guessing.
