Trying to figure out what this hose is for. Video to show

Just noticed the other day that this was resting on my steering shaft and put a hole in it I can’t find where it goes behind the motor. Help please.

Just to clarify, you can't figure out where the hose goes? The thing you tapped on at the end of the video. I don't know what that is, I've been trying to figure that out for a few days, but I believe mine has 2 hoses connected to the back side of it. The top hose runs to the top of the intake after the Idle Air Control Valve. I haven't looked into where the bottom hose goes yet. Do you have any trouble codes?

Yes where it goes because yes there’s two coming out of that thing and one was resting on top of the steering shaft and rubbed a hole in it seen it runs behind the motor. No codes

I think what you tapped on is the vapor control valve which is part of the evap system. I could be way out of the ball park on this though.

I finally had a chance to try and trace that hose and no real luck. All I can tell you as of now is that the rubber hose on my Explorer transitions to a metal "hose" behind the engine. I can't see where the metal hose goes to. I think I'm going to be changing my fuel rail pressure sensor which means I'll have to pull the intake and then maybe I'll be able to figure out what the metal part of that hose runs too. If I figure it out I'll let you know.

That’s exactly what I ran into. I looked but couldn’t see where that metal tube went to. That tube was loose. I just wanted to make sure wherever it went wasn’t damaged. Did you figure it out?

I agree caustic. The larger 1/2” ID tubing connects to the lower port on that EVAP component. It also connects to a metal tube that I couldn’t see where it terminated. Thing is that metal tube was loose and not secured. There’s potential there for a vacuum leak. I’ve got to see that connection. Looks like I may have to remove the intake to really see the connection. That’s next week as I can’t afford for my vehicle to be down for the next few days.

You could always buy an endoscope camera if you can find one that works with your phone to see in hard to reach places. I mean 15-30 bucks for the camera IMO is a small cost vs. taking the intake and such off.

I'd get a look at it before doing all that work.

Ok, I think I might have something. If you go to FordParts.com and put your explorer information in and search for part "9D289" or "Fuel Vapour Separator Tube" and choose the part that has the diagram of the fuel tank. The part we are looking for is "9J388" on the diagram.

After looking at all the pictures it looks like this is actually 2 lines connected with a bracket. I think it's for the fuel line after the filter and a vapor line(obviously).

Hope this helps, I'm still trying to figure out where to source the other part from.

I appreciate your efforts but couldn’t find anything from that site. I’m going to pursue getting some kind of camera that will allow me to look at that obscured area​
