Hey!!! Here is the thing I have just gone from my '87 Ranger to a '96 Explorer 2d Sport and I'm trying to find out how to get my amp/subs into the newer ride. I've looked at all the interface techniques and I understand their concepts. But I also want to get once of those iPod interfaces where you can directly plug into the stereo. And looking at those, it seems like there are no 16-pin compatible connectors for any of them. So now I'm trying to find out, if I just go out and get a new Receiver for the car w/the appropriate interface (ie Pioneer DEH-3700MP & CD-IB100) what would I have to do to install them. Because with the new deck wouldn't the RCU become unneccessary, right? Would this mean I would essientially have to find the speaker wires and splice them to a new harness for the new reciever? Or by chance would there be a harness out that can be both plugged into the old-OEM harness and the new reciever, making the speaker/power/controll wires continuous and the old RCU have nothing (so I wouldn't have to tear the interior apart), and if so where could i find it? Thanks for the help!!! ~BoNes

i dont understand what the RCU is. BUT here is what iw ould reccomend.

sounds like you want to have better sound and ad your subs and amps and also be able to use music off of your IPOD. best way to do this would be by purchasing and installing a new stereo into your rig.
i reccomend the alpine CDA-9847 ($199). it is a very clean looking unit with good sound quality. it is also compatible with an IPOD adapter which is usually sold seperately for $99. with this setup you just plug the ipod adapter into the stereo and then the other end into the IPOD.. i usually run this wire to the glovebox or center console. the greatest thing about the IPOD adapter is that you do not have to change the song on the ipod.. now everythignis controlled through the stereo and the ipod is basically a removable harddrive. very sweet!!

also witha new steroe you will have RCA outs so you can feed signal to your sub and amps.
