New to this whole thing and need some advice

I just bought a '97 X Eddie Bauer edition and had it in the shop. I need new shocks for the air ride system. I need to know if I have to buy them at the dealer or can I buy them some where else. I was told that they are $265 each. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
