Did you do the c-clip eliminator yet? That way if you break the long shaft you can replace it in the field (just pull the spindle and it will come out).
I haven't. This is my first truck, I've always built race cars and I'm a little jaded against c clip elims because I know in 8.8 applications they usually leak. Is that the case with the ttb too? You guys know I the dana 44 ttb from the f150 or bronco will fit the d35 brackets?

Also, did you find a replacement shaft yet? I have a pair of short shafts (drivers) and one long side one from a '91 X from a pair of X's I'm parting out.
I know 1 short shaft and 1 long shaft is definitely out of a 1991 build year (don't remember the month, but I do remember it being 1991). I have another short shaft but I don't know what year it came out of.
I'm not trying to make a killing on these. I just need to sell enough parts to EF people (or ebay worst case) to cover the cost of picking up the parts rigs. Being AZ vehicles I figure people could use the parts (the rigs were just sitting in my neighbors yard for years).
How does $35 for the long side + shipping sound?
Also, if your interested in the c-clip eliminator (e-clip) I have 1 set of parts for it that I can let go for $15 (no shipping since it would fit in the box with axle). Thats the Spring and the split collar and possibly even a boot to cover it. The factory boot is still good, its just a matter of if I can find the extra boot (bigger boot) I bought when I did my c-clip eliminator.
I plan to try to tear it all apart tonight. I need to check my trucks build date to make sure that it takes the older style. Provided it does and nothing else is broken you've got a deal. In fact I'll even take a short one too so I can ride out with a spare set if the eclip eliminator lets you do changes in the field.
I can't remember if there is a difference between the 1991-1992 and the 1993-1994 axle shafts. The 1993-1994 might have a tone ring and if so, I don't know if you can take the ring from the newer shaft and put it on the older shaft.
You can swap the short shaft in the field even without the c-clip eliminator. The long shaft is the one with the e-clip holding the axle in.

The 44 TTB will not fit in the explorer brackets (Dana 35). BUT.. and this is a big but, I know of a person that is setting up to produce some 2" brackets that will allow a person to "bolt in" a Dana 44 TTB. The work is still in a "first run" stage, but if what I'm hearing is correct, it shouldn't be too much longer. As for the quality, I'm running the Dana 35 brackets he designed and made and haven't had a days problem with them.

There's no difference in the shafts outside of the seals (which are interchangeable between them anyway).
When you put the Spicer 5-760s in, also do your shafts so you can put a full-circle retainer clip on the u-joint caps, instead of that half-circle trash they use stock. Those half-round clips coming off is actually a huge cause of shaft failures (the clip comes off, the u-joint bearing cap falls out, followed by the u-joint pin ripping your axle yoke apart).
