welcome to EF! turn off which lights? headlight? interior light? nice that ya goin to a drive in!!! "most friday noghts i can be found, in the back of my truck in an old chaise lounge, backed into my spot at the drive in show" 😃 just thought it was relavent ;)

I was trying to turn off everything, headlights, interior lights, etc… we ended up taking my Blazer to the Drive In. It’s too much of a production with the Explorer! If I remember correctly you have do multiple steps to turn them off and then every time it times out you have to redo it again! It’s something very basic but the Engineers at Ford missed this.

Welcome to the Forum Joe.
Is this with the engine ON or OFF? Not sure it really matters. On my Aviator, you can turn the exterior lights OFF by putting the switch in the OFF position. According to the manual, page 91, there is also a button that will allow you to turn all interior lights OFF. Have you tried those things?

Are you talking about the LED signature lighting in the headlight housing? I have the same issue on my fifth gen. You can turn all the lights off manually, but if the engine is running, there doesn't seem to be a way to turn off the signature lighting. Maybe it's the same on the sixth gen.

We saw an actual, in-service drive-in on a road-trip we finished yesterday! Such nostalgia! Anyway, I accidentally discovered the switch that turns off the internal lighting at the worst time: poorly lit underground garage. Fortunately, I keep a flashlight in the door pocket. Had to use the manual to find what I'd done.

Sorry Mike, but this gave me a good laugh.

I'm just glad we found it. I was trying to open the sun shade and pressed the wrong button. Damn Virginia highway maintenance.

Good thing you follow the Boy Scout motto. "Be Prepared" It saved your day.

Did you get it resolved following my post #5? Also, on my Aviator if I set the light switch to OFF, all exterior lights will remain OFF even with the engine running. Seems like that should address the issue.
