The left turn signal on my 98 explorer only works when the wheel is adjusted to the upper most tilt position. When adjusted to any of the lower positions, it doesn't work. Lately it has gotten worse. To get it to work, I have to apply upward pressure to the steering wheel. The right signal works in all tilt positions.

Question...does this sound like the multi function switch needs replacing or something else?

That would be my guess. I had a similiar situation but it was with my wipers...I had to have the turn signal on to make the wipers turn on...I just ordered one on ebay for about $50 so I hope it works too...

Hi, It is not necessarily the switch. symptomps that you described are rather related to broken wire or bad connection. there is a diagram in Haynes showing all connections in switch, so if you have a multi function meter it it possible to check it. If I were you, I would disassemble the steering column cover and first check the wires. If it's OK than check the switch. Artur

Problem fixed!! Pulled upper/lower column covers and found the problem. A wire had pulled out of the upper connector. Reinserted the wire and all is well again. Thanks for the replies...

Having the same problem, I will try your method
