I have an intermident problem with my "right" only right turn signal. I have a 1997 Limited Explorer.
Sometimes it works fine. Other times it make what I would I would call a grinding noise and will not work. Also, only on the right signal the wipers may come on at the same time when it does work.
Please don't recommend only turning left all the time as that is not an option. Takes too long to get three.
And yes I do like to use my signal lights. One of the few in this city!!

Any idea of what is causing this?? Reply's most appreciated.

BrooklynBay said it, probably the multifunction turn signal switch. Its not too hard to change these out, i recently did mine and it took me around 40 minutes to do it, mainly because is was really cold outside so i kept on going inside the house to warm up.

Anyway good luck. Heres a good thread to check ->> http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=137784

Thanks all for your quick help. Do you think I can replace the multi switch my self.
Is the air bag going to be a problem??

Yup its pretty easy, just disconnect your battery and wait for 10 minutes for the backup power to discharge from the capacitors for the airbag system. Just to be on the safe side. The airbag is in the steering wheel itself so you dont have to touch it, but i make a habit of disconnecting the battery every time i am working near them.

I had this same issue (not the wipers though, but I had the grinding/buzzing noise) and it only seemed to do it when it was very cold, both the truck and the outside air. I swapped 2 different MF turn signal switches in and got it fixed, I guess it was the switch.

I did notice that if I got the blinker flashing by moving it to the pre-click change lanes setting (not clicking it over to the detent) and then clicking it over the detent it worked fine.

I hope that made sense! That may work for you until you get it fixed. :D

You guys are incredible! Sure appreciate all your help!!!

P.S. BP1506 I sure miss my 70 & 81 Camaro's now!!!!!

If u find the multi-function is too expensive, i have an extra one. Its used but not in bad condition or anything. The thing is i replaced it after my signals were sticking instead of just replacing a relay. 100 bucks later between the $20 relay and the $80 Multi-function switch from Ford i felt like an idiot haha. Lemme kno

Thanks much for the offer.Dead Link Removed
