Looks like I have to replace this on my '96 XLT, the wiper variable speed feature has been acting up for a year or so and now sometimes when I hit the turn signal it does nothing, and I have to turn it off and back on. Anyone know how much they get for that part, and is it worth the trouble to replace myself or should I just take it in to Ford?

It's easy, and less than 50 depending on where you get it from. Takes about 1/2 hour. 3 screws (in the column housing), 2 torq's (holding the unit on the column) and 2 plugs in the back of the unit.

It's an easy job to do. You just have to tilt the steering wheel to the position to give you the most access to the screws. You should be completely done in less than an hour.

steering wheel removal isn't required on the explorer's right?

Thanks all, I'll go pick one up and hang onto it until I have time to work on it or it goes completely.
