New here so if post isn't allowed in this thread, please let me know.
Anyhow, just picked up a nice '00 Explorer 4dr awd 5.0 for pretty cheap. Has two issues, overhead console isn't working, dome light and sunroof work, but the compass and temp dont.
Other issue is that the turn signals don't work. It has previous water damage so that could be the problem but I need help diagnosing this thing. Hazards work. High/low beams work, wipers work. When I hit the brake, the driver side front marker light illuminates with the brakelights. This thing has me stumped since I've never seen that before. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Sounds like a bad Turn Signal Relay.

In your case, Rock Auto says it's a STANDARD MOTOR PRODUCTS RY1214

It's the thing that goes "click, click, click" when you activate the turn signals (in your case - no click click click)

They usually start going bad around 180,000 - 200,000 miles.

Turn Signals AND Brake Lights and Overhead Brake Light go through the turn signal relay - so - since you are having problems with BOTH, I'd start there.

Hope that helps -

Where is this relay located? Read that there's one behind the fuse panel? And the brakelights and tail lights work fine. Just when I hit the brake, it's lighting up the front driver side turn signal.

Tilt steering column? If so there are known issues with the MFS and connector. Try tilting the wheel all the way UP first.

Still stumped, going to the junkyard to get a couple relays and signal switches. Gonna give it a shot.

On my '98, the turn signal switch relay is directly right above your knees, and it's mounted sideways. I am assuming that yours is in the same place, but short of you physically checking your situation, there's always the search function on this website, as well as on Google :)

NOTE - Your factory original relay COULD be a different color than the relay which I have shown which is an aftermarket product.

Also note, this is a WEAR item. They have a service life and eventually require replacing. But for your purpose, a used one will help solve the mystery.

Good Luck!

Well it ended up being the turn signal switch. But the one I got from the junkyard has my wipers on all the time. Thinking I might just get one from ford. Thanks for the help guys!
