well im almost 16, getting my license and all and need some suggestions. I have a '93 2dr, 4x4 explorer completely stock. All i really want is a decent lift, tires, and an awsome system. Seeing as how i dont have alot of experience in explorers, ithought this would be the place to go. :p so if u could just list ur favorite setup regarding lifts and tires. ( i can handle the system) also list the price range of ur listed setup. plz and ty. i might can get some pics soon too.

Welcome to the site!

First off, we all know how John Q. Law likes to mess with teeagers with nice vehicles. So I say you start here Lift Laws Thread

After that, how big do you want to go. Are you going to off road it or keep it on the pavement, clean and looking cool?

Check out local and internet tire dealers on tire prices. 31's can run you 100-150 each depending on brand and width and you shouldn't need a lift to ge them on your truck. 32's are slightly higher and most can get them on with some or no lift.

33's nobody can seem to get on without a body lift and a mild suspension lift, or seriously cutting fenders or getting bulge fenders. 33's will cost you between 140-200 per tire, again depending on brand and width.

Anything bigger, your probably not going to accomplish within $1500 for lifts, tires and wheels.

Good luck

ty, i would rather have mud caking and slinging all over the place than have a clean, "pretty" car. So ur saying i can get 32s without a lift, but 33s will need a lift? and since its a 4x4, im lookin to take it on some school-traffic shortcuts. the kind tht gets u home in 3 mins rather than 30... dont get me wrong, i want it to look good but as far as freaking out about a scrath or ding, im not into tht.

Sell it.

3-4k for anything decent (wheels/tires/gears)

1k for cheap stuff thats going to make you wanna sell it anyway

your explorer is a ticking time bomb ;)

get a civic.

But if you are HELL BENT on it (and i know how you people from NC are) then this is what i would suggest...

Lift: 6" Skyjacker class II lift. This one of the 'stronger' bolt on kits avalible. Although skyjacker no longer makes it for the explorer, the ranger kit is the same, except for the rear. Lifting the rear would best done with a 'SOA conversion' (search on this!!) $1000-1500 depending on where you find it

Wheels/Tires: Cheap set of 33"s (Kumhos, Dunlops) and cheap-ol- 50-dollar a pop rocker-crawler wheels. $800-1200

Gears: Dont think your gonna lift without doing gears. Actually, plan on doing the gears FIRST, why? Because your transmission and trasfercase (and gas mileage) will thank you later. $1200 to have a shop do it. If you skip this step, add in an extra $3000 for a new A4LD (auto) or $800 for a new M5R1 (manual tranny) for when it blows 10k miles later.

A cheaper method would be to get a 3" Body lift ($100) and a set of cheap/wheels and 32" tires ($800). 32"s will not fit stock on a first gen. DO plan on gears. The only time i would say for you to skip the gears is if your truck came with 3.73 gearing stock. 3.27 or 3.55 aint gonna cut it (gas mileage and mechanical reliablilty wise). Plan on another $1200 for 4.10s (if you have an auto) or 4.56 (if you have a manual).

Your gonna get this poor kid made fun of 'round here. LOL

Seriously, you wanna mudder? 33s with a BL is the cheapest but not the best. Spend the money on a real suspension lift if you are planning on mudding regularly.

If your plannin on muddin, don't forget to seal and waterproof your stereo components.

Goodluck

haha i didnt mean to be that bad, haha

Thumper dude, if you plan on the NC mud, the Kumho MT's do a little better then the Dunlop Mudrovers in the mud. I know because i LIVE there. haha. But again, this stuff isnt cheap by any means.

32"s/3" body lift, and some 4.10s with a limited slip in the rear is all you need. ($2k overall) I want to stress the gears, not because i love tearing my rear-end down and setting it back up for my health, but that i would have saved some thousand dollars from buying a new tranny and the amount of GAS i had to put in the sucker (HIGH gears and BIG tires dont mix, I averaged 10-12 miles per gallon) Now with 4.56 gears and 32"s i get around 15-18 mpg.

If you want a lift like said above the 5.5 or the 6inch skyjacker and depending on your gear ratio stock 31's 32's or 33's.
3.27....uh good luck 31's?
3.55-32's would be a bit slugish but alright
3.73-33's would be alright

thx creager, big help beleive me, so i think ill go with the "2k overall" deal u explained. tht sounds like it will fit wat ill be using it for the best. ;)

edit: i fount these on ebay, these good?
kumho tires

3" lift

couldnt find any gears but didnt have mcuh time to look good

also, if i were to purchase them, would i need new wheels too? (could be a noobie question, jus wonderin)
