Hello All, I have a 2001 XLS and I am trying to find out what the problem is with my XLS because when I am in reverse in low speed or when I have slowed down and begin to accelerate slightly she turns off. Also she seems to be a slightly rough in the idle. Lets say when I am at a light waiting.

Welcome to the site. You will find all the people here are great and always willing to help. Unfortunetly im not sure whats causing that but someone here definetly does.
GoodLuck!

Strange indeed... is your check engine light on by any chance? Also you might want to check out the battery connections.

It could be the IAC valve. I had one replaced under warranty on my '01 XLS because it kept stalling.

No check engine light on and battery connection are good.

IAC, Should I clean it out or just replace it? Is this piece expensive ? Can this be done or should a mechanic do the work? Thanks for all the input.

Costs ~$60. Can replace in 15 minutes. Search for how to clean IAC. There is a thread explaining how to remove, clean and replace - with pictures!

I'd suggest trying to clean it first, but in my truck's case, it was a defective valve, and cleaning didn't help. Just FYI, my truck didn't throw a CEL either.
