I'm thinking about getting a 5.6" LCD, and I would need a TV tuner for it as well. I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations for a TV tuner. I want a quality unit that gets good reception.

Also, how many channels do you get with the tuner? Just local channels or more? I've looked at Audiovox units, but I just wanted some opinions before I buy.

You'll only get local channels that broadcast UHF IIRC.
The Built in unit in the Pioneer 7500 is the only TV tuner I have experience with and it was actually very nice.

My Alarm guy told me that tv tuners suck in cars. The most you could get out of it is some receptions while the car is at idle. You could forget about when the car is moving! That is why most just go with plain DVD player with no tv tuners. I guess this is true because I have yet to see one on the road watching one of the local channels.

a friedn has an actual car tv that has a tuner in it and it is velcroed to his dash, it has av inputs for his ps2 as well, we watched springer and jenny jones once during work all huddled out in the parking lot, the reception was decent, the engine was off though....

When I'm at work, I see this customer watching TV on his Alpine screen all the time, and the reception looks pretty good. Granted, this is a flip-up unit, but it shouldn't make that big of a difference.

I used to have a clarion tv tuner. The reception was good but I could only get local channels (we have about 4). I ditched it and got an Xbox with dvd capabliities.

Terrible Reception

I have tried out a couple TV tuners in my Explorers over the years. My conclusion was that the reception was so poor, it wasn't worth it. If you were parked in a good spot, it was OK, but when moving, the ghosting effects were terrible (and that was with a special external antenna for TV).
