I think that the best place would be on the door next to the window, on the little triangle. I have heard some in explorers and other cars.

Hope this helps!

I mounted mine in the dash. It was a pain in the a** but I think it's worth it. You have to take the whole dash apart.

As for mounting them in the triangles, the only thing I see wrong is the left tweeter pointing into the dash board. But if somebody that has them that says it sounds good then go ahead. Our Taurus has them there and they sound great for stock.

If you dont feel like cutting/drilling, get some kick panels.

i mounted mine on the A pillars near the dash board. they have excelent imageing. why did you go for the 5.25 infinity's the 5x7s are a perfect fit and are being discontinued so they are a hundred bucks cheaper in crutchfield. anyways, if you want pics i can send some out. just write me at timthrash@earthlink.net

I have a 93 Explorer XLT and I recently purchased an infinity 5 1/4 component set. I was wondering if I could put these in the doors without cutting too much(the 5.25's) As for the tweets, where would be the best place to mount them? I want path lengths to be equal as possible, and mounted to the midwoofer as close as possible. How about putting them behind the factory grill along with the 5.25? Any suggestions would help bunches.
Thanks, Jason

Jason,

I mounted my Infinity tweeters at the top of the A-pillars (next to the upper corners of the winshield.) I realize that cable lengths are now different between the mids and tweeter, however the sound quality is incredible! I would rather the high freqs go into my ears than my legs.

Also, the 5 1/4s mounted in the original door openings, with an adapter plate from Crutchfield.

The best place to mount component speakers is on the kick panel. You will need to build or buy (I would buy) pods to put the speakers in. Q-Forms make them and they fit perfect in the explorer. Crutchfield even shows them installed in an older explorer in their catalog. The reason for placing the speakers in the kick panel is that the speakers are about the same distance from your ears. There is about a 5" difference as apposed to a 24" difference with the speakers placed in the doors.

the best place to mount tweeters is within 6 inches of the woofer. i have the same setup in the front only w/ jl seprates. what i did was real easy and that is to buy some 3/16 inch abs plastic and cut it w/ a jig saw to the same size as the metal piece that holds youre speaker. then mount you're woofer right below the tweeter in the piece that you cut out. it fit perfectly in my '93 xlt so you sould have no problem.

polak is not necissarily correct... If i remember correct, the 1999 IASCA pro 600+ champ has 7" speakers in kickpanels, and tweeters in the A pillars of the car. this is in a dodge intrepid. "the reaper." just goes to show that having them in the same spot isn't always best. i know kickpanels are good for imaging and whatnot, but what good is imaging if your knees are in the way the most of the time? ESPECIALLY if the tweeters are in there
