I'll be starting the installation of my Alpine 6.5" component set tomorrow. I'm looking for last minute advice on the tweeter locations. A few have mentioned the "sail" panels, but on the '97 x, it doesn't seem to be large/thick enough for a flush mount.

I'm not sure if there is enough room for this, but what about right next to the mid in the MDF adapter I will be building for the doors? If I squeeze it in on the far (engine) side, it will be about as close as possible to the kick panel locations everyone seems to like. How would that location be for sound quality? I can't afford the kicks though, so I am looking for the next best option.

I am new to this, so please let me know if anybody has any thoughts. Tx.

That looks great! I was also studying that location but I was thinking there was too much curvature to get it fluch mounted in that spot.

That portion of the door panel on my driver's side is shaped differently though(due to the power side view mirror switch?). Not sure if your x is the same. I don't suppose you have a pic of the spot you mounted the tweeter on the driver door?

If so, you would make my weekend. If not, the above pic helped a lot. Tx.

taxmanns mount is a good spot, or you can see where i put mine in the link in my signature... but i wouldnt keep them behind the door panel, that kinda blocks the sound(just my opinion).

and somebody on the boards said they put theirs in the ashtray...that might be a good palce if u dont use the ashtray.

and some people have put them above the seatbelt swivel mount, right next to your ears.

No I don't have a pic of the drivers side. Same deal as yours though. They are not completely flush, but you realy cannot tell.

Basically the same:

Alec, that install looks great.

How did you make the hole? What speaker is it? How deep is the speaker? How is it hooked up?

Thanks.....

Alec:

Thanks, looks great! I'll probably try the same, but give flush mount a shot. Tx again!

That pod is the entire speaker, about 1.25" x .75". There are 2 holes in the panel, 1 for the wires and one for the mounting screw. Basically the speaker just mounts directly to the panel. Good luck!

Surface mount, eh? Great.

How do you have them wired? Powered by?

Thanks...

Also, what brand are they?

I'd also try the A pillars. Those 1" speakers sound even better pointed down.

like ludas said...try the a pillars, its seems to me like when you mount the tweet and woofer further apart, it makes it seem more like surround sound, cuz youve got highs coming from the eye level area, and lows coming from your knees.

before you actually mount them, hook them up to your power and move them around to different places and see where you think they sound best.

The only problem with the A pillars is that there are no speaker wires running on the passengers side up there, you'd have to thread them through, and that might get complicated. I was going to mount mine there, but because it would require more work than i was willing to do, I mounted them where Alec has his, but i'm planning on moving them.

are you using the stock speaker wires?

i guess it was easy for me cuz i redid all my wiring, and there is a speaker wire easily accessible on the passenger side.

My stock speaker wires (from my aftermarket HU) go to my crossovers, then to the speakers. My front components and rear 5x7s aren't amped.

well with the component set you should be able to easily mount the tweets wherever you want.

I think, but im not sure, ludashatesreese was going to have difficulty mounting his tweets in the Apillars because he was adding tweets to 2way speakers and the speaker wires were coming from the back of the vehicle and would have been hard to tie the tweets into...correct me if im wrong ludas. but you should have no problem wherever you want to mount them.

My Mounts...angled flush

JT:

Very nice...exactly how I plan to mount mine!

Yeah, mine wires are stock (for the most part) and I'm to lazy to rewire the whole car, especially since I'm planning to get a newer X soon. It'll make tranfering the system a lot easier.
